Göteborg, the West Coast and the tiny rest of Scandinavia

Göteborg is Swedens second-largest city (after Stockholm). About half a million people life in the city and about one million in the area. Göteborg is the home of Volvo cars, SKF ball-bearings, Hasselblad cameras, Ericsson Microwave and of course Göteborg's University and Chalmers University of Technology.

Göteborg is located at the West Coast about 300km each of Oslo (to the North) and Copenhagen (to the South) and 450 km of Stockholm (to the East). It can be reached easily by plane, car or ferry.

The surrounding of Göteborg is very attractive and diverse: forests and many lakes in the inland, sandy beaches to the South and the rocky wild coast to the North (Bohuskusten). Here, almost everybody can find its own little bay or island, fishing and sailing are popular summer activities.

The vicinity to the Sea makes it pretty obvious, sea food is special in Göteborg and offered by many restaurants in all categories. Summer life in the city if very active, especially on the restaurant street Aveny, which starts just 100m from the conference centre, or in Liseberg Amusement Park (photo) just 400m from the venue.

Climate in July is usually pleasant, with air temperatures anywhere between 15-28C and water temperatures in the lakes and the sea between 18-22C. If the sky is clear (which may happen), there will be 18h of sunshine.

Of course Sweden is more than just Göteborg, we have to admit - and there is more in Scandinavia. Did you know that from Göteborg to the Northern tip of Scandinavia is as far as from Göteborg to the South of Italy???
