The EST project offers five PhD student positions

The EST contract finances for a period of three years each the studies of five PhD students in systems biology. Those positions have all been filled during 2005.
Three projects have an emphasis on mathematical modelling and two on experimental research, but all projects combine both areas. Students must expect to work in the co-supervisors lab for certain periods during their project. The project titles are as follows:

1. Quantitative analysis and modeling of transcription initiation
Main supervisor: Roel van Driel, Nuclear Organization Group (NOG), Swammerdam Inst. for Life Sciences, University of Amsterdam
e-mail: roeld@science.uva.nl website: http://wwwmc.bio.uva.nl/nog
Additional supervisors: Reinhart Heinrich, Stefan Hohmann
Appointed student: Mattias Irving

2. Bioinformatics and modeling tools for genome-wide analysis
Main supervisor: Olle Nerman, School of Mathematical Sciences, Chalmers University of Technology, Göteborg

Additional supervisors: Edda Klipp, Per Sunnerhagen (via Stefan Hohmann)
Appointed student: Janeli Sarv

3. Studying the aging process in yeast
Main supervisor: Edda Klipp, Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics, Berlin

Additional supervisors: Thomas Nyström (via Stefan Hohmann), Axel Kowald
Appointed student: Marija Cvijovic

4. Analysis of the evolutionary design of metabolic networks
Main supervisor: Reinhart Heinrich, Humboldt Universität Berlin, Institut für Biology
